Does a lower price mean lower ethics?
Not reliably. Price is set by brand positioning, retail margin and marketing spend at least as much as by sourcing cost. Certification fees are largely fixed, so a small brand producing at volume can carry GOTS or Fair Trade marks and still land under £25, while a premium label may charge four times as much with no audited claim behind it at all.
Where budget genuinely constrains ethics, it usually shows up in durability and packaging rather than in labour standards — the cheapest tier is more likely to be single-use or unrepairable. Our per-tier pages call that out explicitly so you can decide whether the cheaper option is a false economy for your use case.

- Filter for audited marks. Prefer products carrying at least one independent certification over vague 'eco-friendly' wording.
- Compare cost per use. Divide price by realistic lifespan. Refillable and repairable items usually win within a year.
- Buy fewer, better. One certified item beats three uncertified ones on both cost and impact over any multi-year horizon.
