How to shop cruelty-free with confidence
- Look for the audited logo. Leaping Bunny is the gold standard; PETA and CCF are also acceptable.
- Check the parent company. A cruelty-free sub-brand under a testing parent is a common grey area — we surface this in each product page.
- Verify the directory. Every certifier has a public brand list. If a brand isn't on it, treat the claim as unverified.
- Combine with vegan. Add a vegan filter if you also want to avoid animal-derived ingredients like beeswax and carmine.
Frequently asked
Is 'cruelty-free' legally defined?+
No, in most markets — including the US and EU — the term is unregulated. Only third-party marks provide real assurance.
Does cruelty-free mean vegan?+
No. Cruelty-free covers testing; vegan covers ingredients. Look for both.
What about brands sold in China?+
Post-market animal testing rules have been reformed for many general cosmetics. We verify each brand's status individually and note edge cases on the product page.
