How a brand score is built

A brand score is the weighted average of every product we hold for that brand, adjusted for company-level conduct. Certifications only count when they are current and issued by an accredited third party — a lapsed mark is removed from the score the moment we detect it.

Certifications: Current, third-party audited marks across the product range.
Materials & sourcing: Fibre and ingredient origin, recycled content, traceability.
Labour standards: Published supplier lists, living-wage commitments, audit results.
Packaging & end of life: Plastic-free, refillable, recyclable or compostable formats.
Conduct: Recalls, greenwashing rulings and documented controversies.

Verify a brand yourself in four steps

Search the register. B Corp, GOTS, Fair Trade and Leaping Bunny all publish searchable public directories.
Check the expiry. Certificates are time-limited; an undated logo on a website proves nothing.
Read the scope. Certification often covers one facility or one line, not the whole catalogue.
Look for a supplier list. Brands confident in their chain publish tier-one factories by name.

How brand pages are built

Each brand page aggregates every audited product from that brand, its verified certifications, its parent company, and any documented recall or controversy. The brand score is the weighted average of its products' ethics scores, adjusted for conduct findings at group level — so a well-certified brand owned by a group with an open labour finding does not read as clean.

Ownership is recorded because it changes what a claim means. A cruelty-free subsidiary inside a group that tests where required by law is a materially different proposition from an independent brand with the same badge, and that distinction is invisible on packaging.

Comparing brands fairly

Brand averages reward consistency, not a single flagship product. A brand with one exceptional item and a long tail of uncertified stock will score below a brand whose entire range is certified, which is usually what shoppers actually want to know.

Range size is shown alongside the score so you can judge confidence. A 92 across four audited products is a weaker signal than an 84 across sixty, and both are shown rather than blended into a single number.

It is the sample-weighted average of the brand's audited product scores, adjusted for certification breadth, open recalls, documented controversies and parent-company conduct.

Why does a brand I know have no page?+

Brand pages are created once at least one of its products has completed an audit. Brands with no verifiable documentation are not listed rather than being listed with a guess.

Can a brand improve its score?+

Yes. Adding verifiable certifications, publishing supplier lists, closing recalls and completing corrective plans all raise it, and changes take effect in the next audit cycle.

We use public documentation, and brands can submit evidence or corrections to editorial@revwix.com at any time. Verified factual errors are fixed within seven days.
