Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifies buildings on energy efficiency, water use, materials, indoor air quality, site selection and innovation. Levels are Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
For consumer products LEED is rarely relevant; it shows up when assessing furniture and home goods made by companies committed to low-impact manufacturing facilities.

In practice, the term appears in two very different places: on regulated certification documents, where it has a fixed technical meaning, and in marketing copy, where it is often used loosely to imply a benefit that has never been audited.
Treat LEED Certification as a starting question rather than an answer. Ask who defined it, who checks it, and whether the check covers the whole product or a single component. A claim backed by a named standard, a certificate number and an expiry date is worth far more than the same word printed on a box.
